In 2021, all 19 Sandals Resorts locations earned Oceanic Global’s Blue 2-Star Seal for their efforts in reducing single-use plastics, adopting proper waste management, and engaging in local ecosystem restoration initiatives and more!

As part of this achievement, Sandals eliminated over 93 million plastic items from both front and back of house operations, significantly reducing the portfolio’s environmental footprint.

Building on the partnership, Oceanic Global launched a Blue Grant project in collaboration with the Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, with the goal of supporting local businesses in Trelawny, Jamaica on their sustainability journeys. Over 100 community members in Jamaica’s Salt Marsh were engaged and educated about the Blue Standard and local businesses through the Blue Grant project. Blue Consultant Robyn Young spearheaded the initiative on the ground. The project resulted in four businesses earning Blue Verification, highlighting sustainability in the region and creating blueprints for sustainable tourism.
