I am an ultra-distance runner with a passion for the great outdoors whether it is near the ocean or up high in the hills. Previously, I have run from Los Angels to Las Vegas, crossed the Sahara as well as circumnavigated Mont Blanc. When I am not running around the streets, I am running (pun intended) an advisory studio with a forward-thinking approach to corporate finance and strategic initiatives.
It is pretty simple - Water means life and builds the foundation for our existence on the Earth, so we must look after her.
I have been blessed to travel and to visit some incredible places around our beautiful world, yet while being at some of the most pristine destinations, I had to face piles of plastics trash. So, it wasn’t just one, but many reoccurring “aha moments” that I wanted to reduce.
A number of races have started to introduce plastic-free policies as well as eliminated providing utensils to drink and eat at aid stations (i.e. BYOU - Bring Your Own Utensils). Also, I am trying to choose my equipment based on the sourced materials and pursue a plant-based diet.
Use glass bottles instead of plastic bottles, which is easy to do in Germany, given that we have a pretty efficient recycling system in place. Also, I suggest using a washing bag (e.g. Guppyfriend) to reduce microplastics entering the water system. Lastly, try to enjoy fish and seafood, when you are close to the sea or somewhat you may know that the product has been sourced with our planet in mind.
