Meet the Ambassador

Federico Morisio

Federico is a professional windsurfer born and raised in Turin, Italy, but now living around the world with bases in Chile, Canary Islands and Hawaii Islands. He won his first international competition in 2017,  and then collected various podiums, last one in 2023 at the Peru World Cup. “Thanks to the values that my parents transmitted me and to windsurfing and traveling for bringing closer and closer to the Ocean throughout the years, I realized the importance of understanding its functions and protecting it, in order to keep enjoying life as we know it”.

His goal is now to help people understand that the Ocean is under attack, meaning we ourselves are under attack, and need to change the way we do things. This will be possible through education, understanding and cohesive action that can bring change at institutional, industrial and personal levels.

Ambassador Q&A

Why do you care deeply about the ocean/what inspires you to protect it?

I care about the ocean because it gives me so much joy, happiness and healthy habits. I'm also now aware of the importance that it has related to human lives and life on Earth in general; so I want people to be able to understand these things and both respect the Ocean for its importance and enjoy to the max in order to strengthen their relationship of love.

Did you have an “aha” moment that inspired you to take action? If so, what was it?

When I started travelling the world to compete as a professional windsurfer I realised how badly we were impacting the ocean's health through plastic contamination and climate change; in fact, as a windsurfer, I could see those effects both on the beaches I was visiting and the wind consistency which is always connected to the climate patterns.

If you could share one tip for protecting our blue planet, what would it be?

I'm first of all starting from myself, trying to make my lifestyle less and less impactful through a plant-based diet, local and less packaged food and products, carbon footprint compensation through mangroves plantations and recycling as much as possible. On a wider perspective, I'm collaborating with my board sponsor and Italian university to create a more sustainable windsurf board in order to inspire and lead a change in the sports industry. Finally, through the organisations I represent as an ambassador, my visibility and skills, I'm trying to educate, raise awareness and help people make decisions that will benefit their/our future by respecting the Ocean and pushing institutions and the public opinion towards more sustainable practices, habits, laws and systems.
