Ambassador Q&A

Why do you care deeply about the Ocean/what inspires you to protect it?

I care deeply about the ocean because I’ve seen how much it holds—not just as an ecosystem, but as a foundation for the people who depend on it every day. Through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the ocean alongside communities whose livelihoods, culture, and identity are closely tied to it, which really shifted how I understand conservation.

Did you have an “aha” moment that inspired you to take action? If so, what was it?

My “aha” moment came from realizing that science alone isn’t enough to drive effective conservation. While working in marine research and coastal environments, I saw firsthand that even the strongest science can fall short if it isn’t connected to governance systems or the realities of the communities most impacted. That shift in perspective pushed me to focus my career at the intersection of science, policy, and community engagement—working toward solutions that are not only technically sound, but also practical and lasting.

If you could share one tip for protecting our Blue Planet, what would it be?

Invest in making science more accessible and relatable. Some of the biggest barriers to ocean protection aren’t a lack of knowledge, but a lack of alignment between science, policy, and public understanding. When information is translated in a way that actually resonates—through storytelling, media, or community engagement—it becomes something people care about and act on. Strengthening that connection is key to building solutions that are not only informed, but also supported and sustained.
