Oceanic Global is excited to be the charity partner for Tombolo’s Blue Earth Cabana shirt. Through 22 April 2021, 100% of sales will go toward Oceanic Global’s ongoing ocean conservation efforts.
This latest rendition of Tombolo’s classic cabana shirt is made with organic cotton terry cloth (doubles as a towel on a beach day!) and features artwork from 19th-century designer and environmental crusader, William Morris.
We sat down (virtually) with Tombolo co-founders, Mike & Chris, to learn more about why they chose to center sustainability in their business and to partner with Oceanic Global—
“We’re the first to admit the conflict we feel about the environmental impact of making, moving, and selling merchandise on a global scale. To offset that toll, we push ourselves to focus on eco-friendly materials, sustainable business practices, and giving back to causes that move us. We’ve always been attracted to the idea of tethering a whimsical and playful brand to a staid commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. Those virtues don’t have to be packaged up as part of a sterile or sanctimonious brand. They can also be core to a brand that makes you smile and chuckle.

As co-founders, we both fostered a lifelong appreciation for the joys of the ocean, whether it be sunset plunges, kite surfing, or sailing. Our fascination with the ocean is reflected in many of our designs which feature sea creatures peeking out of pockets and sailboats cradled by giant mermaids. When it came to piecing together a plan to give back in the lead up to Earth Day, we knew we had to include an ocean-focused cause. It’s always irked us that Earth Day doesn’t really get associated with the world’s oceans—given that the planet is mostly water.”
