Oceanic Global's NYC Hub hosts a biweekly Open Ocean Circle to digest and discuss ocean-focused learnings (films, podcasts, books)

Oceanic Global’s NYC Hub is hosting a biweekly Open Ocean Circle to digest and discuss ocean-focused learnings (films, podcasts, books). These are hosted biweekly on Mondays at 6:30pm EST. See the schedule below!

RSVP by emailing our NYC Hub Co-Chairs: Sarah Michler <[email protected]> and Jocelyn Scanlon <[email protected]>.

Week 1: February 8th – Film “My Octopus Teacher”

To kick off the series, the group watched “My Octopus Teacher” available on Netflix and discussed the awe & wonder of the ocean as well as the many mysteries she holds.

Are other marine animals as intelligent as the octopus featured in this film? If that is true, how do they feel about the current state of our ocean? What marine creature do we most identify with and how do we share a sense of empathy and drive towards ocean action?

Week 2: February 22nd – Film “Chasing Coral”

For Week 2, we discussed “Chasing Coral” (also available on Netflix). Dive into the magical world of coral reefs with us and be prepared to learn about the tragedy they face if we don’t take action.

There are many reasons to feel optimistic and we will share the work currently ongoing to change the destructive trajectory we are on!

*Special guest: Jeff Orlowski (Chasing Coral Director) joined us for a Q&A for the first 30min of the gathering! Bring your questions. 🙂
